Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. Romans 2: 21-24
Now read this scripture over again and make sure that you have digested every bit. Did you read that if you teach someone else, you better make sure that you are taught first yourself? Did you just read that if you say someone should not steal, you shouldn't steal yourself? Or what about adultery? Did you just read that if you say you shouldn't commit adultery, then you shouldn't do it yourself? Did you read the part about committing sacrilege? It's all there in plain view the things that should not be done if you are a Christian.
I know this passage in context speaks of a profession of keeping the law and then breaking it by Jews who weren't necessarily Christians. But just because we are out from under the law as Christians, does that make it okay to forget about teaching yourself, stealing, committing adultery, or committing sacrilege? If you even thought "yes" and you profess to be a Christian, then start reading and living what your Bible says. You need to grow up.
"But!", you say, "I have never stolen anything!" Have you ever slacked off at work?
Read...Ephesians 6: 5-6
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
"Not with eyeservice" means that you aren't just working when they are watching you, but whenever you should be working. Are you paid to work for 8 hours? Then work 8 hours!
"I've never committed adultery!" Have you thought dirty things about another person? Don't you dare blame anyone else for doing this until you have read...Mathew 5:28
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Once is all it takes.
"I've never committed sacrilege! It's not like I've sacrificed a baby to Satan or anything! Lighten up!" Have you ever held another thing besides God on the throne of your heart? Have you ever seen your self-esteem placed high atop that throne? This can happen! You can see evidence of it when your friends ask you to do something that God has said "no" to and you specifically disregard God and do it anyway because you want to be part of the group. I understand that you don't want to get your feelings hurt, but we are in a spiritual battle here, Christian, wake up! Get your eyes off yourself and start living for Jesus!
You keep saying "What I am doing is not that bad. I do some things, but nothing like the people in my church. Sure, God forgives them, but because they've sinned so grossly, I just can't consider them descent Christians anymore. I won't even acknowledge their existence. Besides...everyone in church thinks what I'm doing is alright."
What you are describing is the false doctrine that some sins are worse than others. It is blasphemy to say that God's gift of forgiveness favors you over them! It is blasphemy to trodden down the blood of Jesus Christ by saying His blood only covered the socially acceptable sins you have done and couldn't cleanse the sins of those who you consider outcasts!
Beware! Have you asked God lately to have Him check the status of your heart? Those outcasts are normally the ones clinging close to Jesus, while the Pharisees were the ones far away thinking they were better than everyone else.
Shut your mouth because you are not speaking the truth of God. And please, keep from blaspheming the name of God to the world by not opening it until you have repented.
